Dear Friends of Bryn Seion Welsh Church,
This January marked the 142nd anniversary of the founding of Bryn Seion Welsh Church in 1884. Welsh settlers came to Beavercreek, Oregon seeking land and opportunity and brought with them a desire to worship and sing in their native Welsh language. The chapel gave them a place to come together and share their traditions. Drawing from the wider Welsh community of the region, it maintained an unbroken tradition of bi-lingual worship services on second and fourth Sundays of the month. Recently, the Bryn Seion leadership found it necessary to adapt to the times and transition from meeting twice each month, to putting energies into planning a few religious and Welsh music themed events each year. In the case for many older churches across the country, the “historic” model presents new opportunities to fulfill our Mission. In addition to the listed events, some building improvement projects are planned that include restoration to the chapel’s interior and begin to digitize and archive historical documents. We will be working even more closely with the Welsh Society of Oregon, the local Beavercreek Hamlet Council, as well as developing new relationships with the local historical societies. Bryn Seion over the years has attracted interest and support of people from California to Vancouver, BC and beyond who share a bond of Welsh heritage, singing and culture. We believe that there are many dedicated people who want to see Bryn Seion continue and thrive and we hope that you will be among those who would like to share in this endeavor.
